The Barack Obama that most Hoosiers remember voting for can still be found on YouTube. He stands before a cheering Elkhart high school gymnasium in August 2008, tireless, aspirational, promising a new America of jobs and hope. "We can choose another future," says the newcomer with the funny name. "So I ask you to join me."

Today that view of Obama is harder to find in Indiana.

KABUL, Afghanistan — In a bid to fend off the threat of a nationwide financial crisis, the Afghan government scrambled to shore up Afghanistan’s largest bank on Saturday after lines of frantic depositors mobbed the bank for a third day.

A small team of advisers from the United States Treasury Department was in Kabul providing technical assistance, but American officials said no United States funds would be involved in the effort to rescue the bank.

Presented by President Hugo Chávez as an instrument to make shopping for groceries easier, the ``Good Life Card'' is making various segments of the population wary because they see it as a furtive attempt to introduce a rationing card similar to the one in Cuba.

The measure could easily become a mechanism to control the population, according to civil society groups.

The South Korean government, in an effort to raise money for its military, wants to sell nearly a million antique M1 rifles that were used by U.S. soldiers in the Korean War to gun collectors in America.

The Obama administration approved the sale of the American-made rifles last year. But it reversed course and banned the sale in March – a decision that went largely unnoticed at the time but that is now sparking opposition from gun rights advocates.

The Supreme Court said on Monday a complete ban on handguns is unconstitutional, ruling individuals have a fundamental right to protect themselves. Writing for the majority, Justice Samuel Alito reaffirmed a decision two years ago that the Constitution's Second Amendment protects an individual's right to "keep and bear arms" for self defense. That decision struck down Washington D.C.'s handgun ban. The Second Amendment, Alito wrote on Monday, "applies equally to the federal government and the states."

Retiring Justice John Paul Stevens, in his last day on the Court, said in dissent, that the ruling would prove "destructive…to our nation's communities and to our constitutional structure." The ruling was a victory for the NRA, which has fought for decades to establish a constitutional right to own guns. "It's a vindication for the great majority of Americans all across this land," said NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre.
